Hello from the extremely chilly east coast of Canada! PEI has been in a bit of a deep-freeze lately but fortunately I’ve got a stash of tea and loads of new tunes to learn, so I can stay snug in my cozy apartment. 🙂
In case you were wondering what I’ve been up to, these days I’m keeping busy wearing my Artistic Director hat at the Festival of Small Halls. I’m excited about this year’s line-up, which will be announced soon! This year’s festival runs from June 12th-25th with lots of new artists onboard and new types of events to take in.
And on the music side of things…! I’m excited to be heading back to Boston in August for the Boston Harbor Scottish Fiddle School. I had such a blast there last summer teaching PEI tunes, not to mention the stunning surroundings. If you’re thinking about going to a fiddle camp this summer, I’d keep this one on your list. I mean, you spend the week on an island (Thompson Island, to be specific) in Boston Harbor, learning and playing tunes from morning till night! What more could you ask for?
I’m also pumped to be heading back to the Norwegian Gem in the fall with The Cynthia MacLeod Trio! Percussionist Spencer Inch is joining me for the third year in a row, and we have a new bandmate – the wonderful Andrew Waite. We’re working on new music now and are stoked to be hitting the road again. Or ocean, if you will. My last gigs with Andrew were at the Banff Springs Hotel in Banff, Alberta back in August 2014, so it’s high time we get together and play tunes once again, I’d say!
